"The queue for the monorail is approximately 50mins. Did you know a brisk 15 min walk is great for your cardiovascular health. Which is coincidentally the time it takes to walk from this station to the turnstiles. So why not have a free cardiovascular work out on us"

That'll be the sugar tax moreso than the park decision (it is still, a load of balls though)...

Full fat drinks have been removed from Pizza Pasta as there is no practical way of levying the sugar tax since it’s an all you can eat buffet.

Around the park these drinks are still available, with a 20p tax surcharge per refill on day and annual pass drink caspsules.

Yup, funny thing is though, those of us who don't like the idea of certain ingredients in the sugar free / no added sugar products, would rather pay the tax anyway, all the park has done by making this decision is to absolutely guarantee I won't be spending any money on park now for drinks unless my life depends on it.

How attitudes change! I remember a few years back when Towers were getting slated for the lack of healthy eating options available on-park. An AT spokesperson put out a response basically stating there were some healthy options available, but a theme park day out was seen by many as a treat and as such that possibly also meant eating less healthily than you would otherwise do.

Quite a sensible comment from AT really. If you eat McD's / KFC etc all the time it is not good for you and will more than likely have a detrimental impact on your weight. The occasional McD's / KFC is unlikely to do you much harm.

With the fizzy drinks the change has been forced upon them by the law.

One slight problem there - you're using the word "free" in an official announcement from Alton Towers. It won't be long before they have coin-operated turnstiles on the path from the carpark to the main entrance to pay for the upkeep of the path due to increased foot-fall caused by Monorail cutbacks. Second thoughts, I had better not give them ideas!
 
Does anyone have a route to take when going through the gardens that has you see everything in one clear route? or is it just best to stick to the big main path that starts under the archway bridge?
 
Operations have been great today, except Galactica which I decided to skip as it looked like a slow moving queue. I had no issues with monorail either journey. Straight on.

They got Rita open eventually too but again not really fussed about that one either so skipped it.

Despite enjoying a good wander in the gardens on every visit over the last forty years, I still don't know my way around all the paths, even though the gardens have been considerably shortened by fencing.
Make sure you hunt around near the top and do the stepping stones, a real part of the magic...and to give credit, they have been tidied.

To be fair, the gardens are a bit of a mish-mash with features all over the place. There is definitely not one main route if you want to have a good explore. You just have to meander all over the place in all honesty to see most of the stuff in there.

Yes, seconded. Everything, coasterwise, was working well, good dispatch, minimal queues

Second thought, don't post on here where Merlin and Alton can see, they will only go and cut the ride times again next year, especially if they can see that you are having a great day ;)

Yeah did think about that myself half seriously. Lol.

It's a great park for off peak. Absolutely dead and walk on pretty much everything including WM.

Hardly a ringing endorsement though is it that they are good when hardly anyone turns up? Hahahaha. I'm definitely going to be visiting at scarefest though which I don't usually do. I want a night ride or 2 on it.

Although I agree with the spirit of your argument, you’re at the mercy of whatever they choose to sell. They’re already choosing that you drink Coca Cola products (over PepsiCo which have more sugar in them). They’re already deciding which subset of Coca Cola products you drink too - no Lemon Fanta :-(

Interestingly, in Nandos this evening I was asked which drinks I would be helping myself to from the fountain. If I was drinking regular Coke that was an additional 20p. I said Diet but took regular :cool:

I can't be bothered to research it, but I wonder if they *have to* charge extra, or if they charge extra because their supplier is charging extra, and the tax is collected that way (is it even an actual tax that goes somewhere, or do the drinks companies just pocket the extra cash)? Basically... is anywhere going to absorb it rather than pass the charge on (or increase the cost of the "unlimited refills" you get at buffets to cover it regardless of what you're having out of the fountain?)
