I think you can pick holes in both major manifestos. If you look at the New Labour effort from 1997, it was essentially five bullet points. The idea we now have these grand (or not so grand) visions for the country is strange. Especially when you have Brexit on the horizon that will fundamentally shake up this nation and its economy (for better, or for worse, depending on your point of view) - the idea that you can do the same regardless is baffling to me.
It's refreshing to have two real competing visions for the country, any notion that it's two similar approaches has to be entirely discounted.
I'm going to vote for whatever makes a hung parliament more likely, as I'm pretty nervous about what either party would do with their desired majority.
Had a bit of a mid-pub quiz debate about the Tory NHS proposals this evening. Their ability to make people think they have a credible, costed plan is astonishing... 50,000 'new' nurses, of which 19,000 already exist in a system that has 40,000 vacancies. 50,000,000 more GP appointments despite them previously pledging and failing to recruit 5,000 further GPs. And social care... After being stung in 2017 on their social care policy, they have simply opted not to have one. That feels like the real scandal of our generation and you can only assume folks who don't see it no longer have parents, have the means to pay for it, wish to see no inheritance or just don't care about our elders.
I still scratch my head on Brexit too.
