Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

I really don't understand why there's so much emphasis on the bloody station?!

This ride clearly isn't going to be about theming, so who cares if the station looks like a giant metal shed?! I certainly don't XD

+1. I must say I'm not too bothered about the station, or even the theming really for that matter. I especially don't see the point in slating the station before its even finished. I think its gonna be a great ride, a superb addition to the park, which will be awesome both to ride and to watch from other rides / on foot around the park as it snakes its way over, under and through other rides. It really is that simple for me.

Well theme park enthusiasts like myself love to be negative and the station is the only thing we can moan about as everything else is looking absolutely fantastic!

As fantastic as Icon looks, a nice station will improve the overall appearance of the ride as well as the presence it has in the area. It's still important even considering how good the coaster itself looks IMO.

If an aesthetically pleasing ride station isn't important, why would we have fantastic structures like The Big One's or Grand National's station?

Blackpool do have a pretty decent record with their stations so whilst it might be nit-picking a little, it would be a shame to have what otherwise looks to be a great ride in such a prominent location have such a lacklustre station. We’ll wait and see what embellishments happen - I’m just struggling to think what these could be given the cladding that’s already installed.

I don't think I would ever call the Big Ones station a fantastic structure, it's hideous IMO.

Nash, Dipper and Avalanche have nice stations though.

I think love it or hate it, the Big One’s station has got architectural merit, at least more so than the current Icon box. That’s why I’d be surprised if Icon’s station ends up being just a box.

I couldn't care less about Icon's theme, I am very confident it's going to be an excellent coaster and that for me is a lot more important than how its station is going to look. That said, people should wait for it to be finished before having a heart attack over it midway through construction.

The station looks fine. Looks very similar to Galactica's cladding station. Nothing mesmerising but hardly a concrete mess like The Smiler's station.

You know what, the more I thought about it, the more I realised that stations really did used to be a focal point for BPB.

Whilst without looking excessvely themed to a Disney or Univeral standard, they used to go for a grand ott style.

Just look at Avalanche, Dipper, Steeplechase, Nash and the Big One, all extravagant structures without really having much detailed theming (with the exception of Avalanche, obvs).

Who cares about the station? It's Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The ride will be great. Certainly a very different type of ride to their other coasters. Not sure how the BPB purists will take it but I think it'll be fab.

BPB purists? Are these people who think that the park should never move on or introduce new rides? I love BPB and always have done, and whilst the nostalgia element is big for me (the fact that I can still go on rides I first enjoyed 25-30 years ago), I am very excited about a ride such as Icon opening. The fact that it is taking over what was essentially dead space for years in the park is a bonus. Who knows, perhaps I may think differently if a new ride was directly replacing Nash for example.

The very fact that Icon will be interacting with a wooden coaster that is approaching 100 years old shows you how good BPB are at mixing old & new. A great ride is a great ride and I think it would be sad if 'purists' look down their noses at Icon because of how different it is for the park. I think the buzz around the South park area this season will be immense, for goons and joe public alike. Bring it on !

Crane tops lost in mist,
Grey tubes hang in a grey sky,
Just like ninety four.

Rob, you could write poetry books. Print a limited run of 200. You might sell. . . about 67 to coaster nerds & end up pulping the rest like Alan Partridge with his 'Bouncing Back' book ! They should get you to read this classic minimalist 3-liner over the inevitable timelapse video

I don't think any BPB fans are complaining that Icon is different to the other rides, that's exactly what a park needs - variety!

Icon looks fantastic and the fact it isn't coming at the expense of another ride/coaster is even better.

Agreed. Not met anyone who’s said this coaster is a bad idea or indeed looks down on it. I suppose as a BPB fan you just want it to be the best overall ride it can be and the station is a part of that (a bigger part for some than others).

In fact it might be, one of the best received/anticipated additions to the UK in some time - at least so far.

Gosh. Comments seem to have gone down like a lead balloon with some people.

I am absolutely certain it will be a brilliant ride, one of the best coasters in the UK. It is an excellent ride for the park. I am an absolute Mack fanboy so can't wait to see it open.

I just hope that die-hard BPB fans, who like these rough and ready coasters, like it too! I am only basing my thoughts on occasional scanning of BPB forums over many years and gauging that one of the things that isn't liked is the smoothness of many coasters at other parks. This will be silky smooth.

:)

Ahhh, I see. You're refering to the "Infusion is better than Nemesis" trolls.

Eh, let 'em believe their own lies. Shorter queues for us mate! :p
