Considering Flight of Passage is still getting 3-4 hour queues, Galaxy's Edge is going to be absolute carnage for a good few years.

Yeah but as fastpass at WDW is managed by the app there is not the same issue of guests rushing to get a fastpass. That fighting is all done virtually 30 or 60 days ahead.

With Disneyland it’s still the paper fastpass if not using maxpass I believe? So the rush/crush to get a fastpass would be problematic.

Of course it could just be good old profiteering, but just a thought.

Correct.

It would not surprise me if you need to reserve a time to enter Galaxy's Edge when it first opens, never mind go on the rides. It's going to be complete and utter hell for a good while; I'm visiting in the traiditionally quieter September however I think any previous patterns of crowd levels can be thrown out of the window.

Disney will try and make money out of pretty much anything though and prices tend to be a premium. They only really utilise free fastpass for crowd/queue control, and monetising part of this adds another level of control I suppose. Also the less time people are waiting in physical queues the more time they can be spending money elsewhere in the parks.
 
Hate to say this....

but I'm not a Disney or a Star Wars fanboy but if there was an uncharge when I'm there in November, then I'd cough up. I think most guests would and Disney know this.
 
Just announced Galaxy edge opens on the 31st May 2019 in California, how ever rise of the Resistance wont be ready and will open latter in the year. Galaxy edge opens in Florida on 29th Aug.

There will be no Fast Pass available initially for Smugglers run at both resorts (there will be a single rider line) plus at Disneyland if visiting before 23rd June you will need to make an advanced timed reservation to be able to enter the land (at no cost) or if staying in one of the three onsite hotels you will get 1 assigned timed reservation per person per stay.

Here is the related Disney Parks Blog post. Opening the area ahead of schedule is good news and I think their strategy of opening it in phases is quite clever. Sounds like the area itself is going to be finished along with the shops and food outlets. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will obviously be finished and the more complex Rise of the Resistance ride will hopefully open whenever it was due to originally open (June/July time).

It should help spread out visits a little bit more than if it all opened in one go.

No fastpass from the start is also very sensible. The main queue is going to need the best possible capacity available!
 
This is going to be hell on earth (not that Disney is normally a pleasant experience anyway!), but I suppose if anyone has experience in handling crowds it is Disney.

I think I will cry if Rise of the Resistance is not open in September, even though it could mean less crowds I don't want to be missing out on what will likely be the best dark ride in the world! Seem to have been rumours circulating that testing of the ride thus far has shown it to be rather unreliable which would make sense as they don't want it breaking down every 5 minutes once the land is open.

I am hoping it is open when I visit in Oct, I am more interested in riding Rise of the Risistance than smugglers run!
 
Unsurprsingly there are all sorts of rumours flying around regarding Rise of the Resistance! They vary from catastrophic issues with the ride system that Disney do not know how to fix to delaying its opening purely to try and make some more dollars.

However a very reliable source has stated that the problems are merely minor ride system bugs that have had no real bearing on the phased opening. And suggested that the opening of Rise of the Resistance could well tie in with another media event.

Could it be that they are delaying its opening until the Premire of the new Star Wars film in December? A tie in would no doubt ensure Disney are quids in, but it would surely be a stupid thing to do in terms of crowd management? Maybe the ride reveals things that they do not want to be revealed until the film is released?
 
I'd be very surprised if any major spoilers from upcoming movies were revealed in the ride considering the original planned opening date was well before Episode IX, I'm sure any delay needed for that would've been factored in long ago. My guess would be that as this likely to be an almost 30 minute experience that there's tweaks needed to ensure good crowd flow throughout (I'm looking at you Flight of Passage animatronic), along with technical tweaks to the rumoured 300+ animatronics.

I gather there is now a whole generation of septics that are so brand-brainwashed, they think when you turn on a tap, "Dasani" comes out.
 
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is coming to Disneyland in 2022.

The WDW Hollywood Studios version has been delayed from 2019 until Spring 2020.

 
Excellent! I wanna visit in a few years and I'm just missing out on the Florida version. I hear rumours as well that Paris maybe getting one too?
 
A peek inside Galaxy's Edge. Have to say as imagined the theming looks insane, as does Smuggler's Run. Cannot wait to visit again, may be best to wait a year or so though crowd-wise! :p

 
Having watched a few different vlogs over last 24 hrs of the preview event and opening day of Galaxy's edge.....I think it's fair to say this is the best immersion we've ever seen in a theme park. It blows Avatar and the potterverse out of the water for me and they are both world class too.

Shame Paris is only getting a small version.
 
Funny because though I think galaxies edge looks greet I think diagonally and Pandora look better then again I'm just not a star wars fan.

Reviews for smugglers run have said its good-great but not ground breaking like avatar or radiator springs racers
