Disneyland Resort, California: General Discussion

Funny because though I think galaxies edge looks greet I think diagonally and Pandora look better then again I'm just not a star wars fan.

Reviews for smugglers run have said its good-great but not ground breaking like avatar or radiator springs racers

Rise of the Risistance is meant to be the ground breaking ride. I think Galaxy edge looks amazing, I have avoided videos of
Smugglers runs, so get full experience riding first time in October.

Yep looking forward to rise of the resistance, it sounds like a hybrid of a lot of interesting ride systems

Smugglers Run sounds a bit *too* interactive from what Tim Trackers video suggested.

I want to sit back and enjoy a ride, not play a video game with some strangers.

Other than that, overall it looks like they've absolutely nailed it.

Yeah SR is definitely not going to be the best 'ride' in the area eventually but just to stand in the Millennium Falcon will be enough for most people tbh. The queue and the location is almost as important as the ride system with that one. Whereas ROTR will definitely be more about the ride system etc.

And I'm a huge Star Wars fan so It means more to me. I can't believe I'm going to have to wait another 3 years. :(

I appreciate that they've tried something different. From what I've seen of SR it looks like a seamless experience. Very cool concept.

Smugglers Run was always going to be a D Ticket that has only really gained an E Ticket status with ROTR not open yet.

SR has plenty going for it too. The queue and being able to stand in the MF will always be a huge pull. Don't think ROTR will have such an amazing queue or setting but I'm sure the actual ride will be better.

They are totally different experiences though. Something for everyone.

Both attractions are clearly E-ticket attractions.

Looks like Disneyland has been very quiet since Galaxy's Edge opened. The area looks stunning though, by far the best theme park area in the world in my opinion and I am not ever a Star Wars fan.

Aren't they still being quite reservation focused on the area? That and the lack of Rise being open might be putting people off...

I've just read the following post over on WDWMAGIC forums regarding Rise of the Resistance and when it might open:
WDWMAGIC said:
Realistically, there's a 30 day lead time between the time the executive team pulls the trigger on the 72 Hour Test, when the ride can pass the 72 Hour Test, and finally when training of Ops CM's can begin. And that's assuming the attraction passes the 72 Hour Test. It's not unheard of to have a new ride system fail a 72 Hour Test, which sends WDI back to work to fix whatever faults were found during the test, then do more follow up, then schedule another 72 Hour Test and cross fingers.

But for the purpose of the casual readers here in this thread, and to get more OT about when this ride may open, here's the timeline that would play out for opening ROTR. This assumes a 30 day lead time between when the 72 Hour Test gets a green light, plus 90 days of Ops Training to get 200+ dues paying Union CM's trained with a 3 week scheduling lead time. Plus four days of pad time for media events, previews, whatever.

If the 72 Hour Test gets approval this Monday, June 3rd, the ride opens Friday, October 4th. That's best case scenario and the earliest date humanly possible at this time.

Here's the rest of that basic schedule through the end of calendar year 2019, based on executive approval of a 72 Hour Test and then perfect timing and a little luck thereafter:

Approval Monday, June 10th, the ride opens Friday, October 11th
Approval Monday, June 17th, the ride opens Friday, October 18th
Approval Monday, June 23rd, the ride opens Friday, October 25th
Approval Monday, July 1st, the ride opens Friday, November 1st
Approval Monday, July 8th, the ride opens Friday, November 8th
Approval Monday, July 15th, the ride opens Friday, November 15th
Approval Monday, July 22nd, the ride opens Friday, November 22nd
Approval Monday, July 29th, the ride opens Friday, November 29th (that's Thanksgiving weekend, so highly unlikely, probably bounced to the following week)
Approval Monday, August 5th, the ride opens Friday, December 6th
Approval Monday, August 12th, the ride opens Friday, December 13th (I dare you to open a new E Ticket on Friday The 13th. I dare you!)
Approval Monday, August 19th, the ride opens Friday, December 20th (now you are in the peak Christmas weeks, probably bounced to early January)
Approval Monday, August 26th, the ride opens Friday, December 27th (same as the previous week)
Approval Monday, September 2nd, the ride opens Friday, January 3rd 2020

Continue that timeline into early 2020. Rinse and repeat.

Like I said, that "Opens later this year" tagline for ROTR is not just vague, it's wildly optimistic.

I've no idea how accurate all of that information is regarding testing timelines but with this being Disney 4 months of testing and training sounds about right.

I've certainly given up all hope of riding it in September.

In news that has sent shivers down the spines of all of those who are visiting Disneyland later this year, it has been announced the the Main Street Electrical Parade is returning to Disneyland between August 2nd and September 30th.

I love a good old parade - such an 80’s thing. AT will be wheeling Henry and the gang out soon to reinstate theirs

Could be worse. Had this happened pretty much anywhere else in the USA, it wouldn't have been broken up by bystanders and park security. They would all have been shot on sight for being black by the police.

Captain Hook has a gun, good job it didn't happen outside Peter Pans Flight.

The opening dates for RotR at both parks has been announced:

Hollywood Studios Florida - December 5th 2019.
Disneyland California - January 17th 2020.

I find it odd that Cali's opens after Florida's, despite the lands opening in the opposite time frames....

I wonder if they've had to make an alteration to the ride that involved redoing part of it. This would explain how Florida's version could open first if less of that part of the project had been completed so they have less to alter.

There were rumours that the Cali version has some sort of major construction issue that was found out quite late on, and the announced opening dates would back that up. I also reckon that Disney think that the capacity of an extra ride is going to be needed sooner at Hollywood Studios than it is at Disneyland.

Disneyland is still much quieter than it expected to be at this time of year and it sounds like Disney have begun to implement budget cuts due to the poor performance. I'm just hoping it stays quiet in September after the passholder restrictions have been lifted!

EDIT:

Here is what MiceChat have said:

"The Florida version of Rise of the Resistance has benefited from being a few months behind the Disneyland construction schedule and was able to avoid some of the issues of its counterpoint."

"The reason for the delay is complicated and there are a number of factors impacting the attraction. But sources in the themed entertainment industry point much of the blame at Oceaneering Entertainment Systems, the vendor responsible for manufacturing, programming, and installing the trackless ride system."
