Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Merlin wouldn't know maintainance if it punched them in the face. Within a year this thing will be broken and grotty. And it will never be repaired or cleaned.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The concrete is awful, and despite still being excited by the project, it doesn't sit right for me as a true 'theme'. It's a lazy way to depict a dystopian future, a theme which on paper has so much more potential.

It's a brave concept but I still consider it a poor theme for a theme park. Put this in Disney or Europa Park and it will be dreadful

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I don't mind the concrete retaining walls used around the site, they pretty much look the same as those used around Oblivion's drop so at least there is some coherance. I do hope they clean them though before opening, they look dreadful covered in mud.

On the other hand, the station is absymal. And no amount of plastic pipes or painted spirals will change that.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The slapping of lettering and pipes against concrete is a joke really. I was hoping they would spray a darkening tone on it. I thought people were supposed to be CREATIVE directors within Merlin, surely they must have an understanding of contrast and appearance - but with bins and oil barrels tied to theming objects I dread to think if anyone in the whole company has an art degree.

Amen to that.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I like it... But only because it strongly reminds me of the aesthetic and world of portal and aperture labs...

I like portal. In case you didn't know.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I cant see this being posted but on TTF's FB page someone has posted videos of both the giggler and innoculator testing

Oh boy, the Innoculator looks vicious :(

I think they may have to decrease the pressure or something, it looks bad enough stationary, let alone at 30-40 mph!

Also can we have some kind of bet based on how many of these effects will still be working by the end of the season? Someone could win big! Haha! :twirly:

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I'm sure the water jets from The Inoculator will switch off before the train passes under (hopefully). XD

I just hope the maintenance of this is kept top notch (hopefully...again).

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The Innoculator looks really good! I like the way that they fire more than just one burst at a time. :)

As for the Giggler, it seems to be a little weak but I wasn't sure whether this was due to the wind. Is the 'gas' meant to be flowing sideways or straight down?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

That water will be seriously painful and annoying if it doesn't switch off before you pass through it. That's the sort of thing that kills re-ride value for me, like when The Swarm's splash jets were turned to face the train last year. :/

On the plus side, at least they have lined the jets up properly so they all meet exactly at the track, in a nice symetrical fan shape. :p

i really love it, although concur you dont want a face full of water at 40mph, i suspect they will stop before the train reaches them

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I guess there is a trough underneath the track to catch most of this water? Otherwise I hope the queue doesn't run directly beneath there ;)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

^is there a drain otherwise there may be pools of water? also, is the water coming through the needles, it doesnt look like it

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

It looks viciously awesome... though I would presume (as others have said) that it won't fire at riders due to the pressure of those jets! However it's great to see they're lined up correctly and provide a really powerful and visible effect!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Calm down everyone, it's only MIST.... :X

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I can't believe the park have constructed a device to fire what is clearly simply a harmless mist to create the illusion of a toxic gas. Typical Merlin.
