[The Smiler] Construction Updates / Ride Speculation Part 2 *SPOILER FREE*
Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2
Those screens are looking EPIC (provided they sort out the feed issues that have flipped top and bottom) plus the animations are great as well. The whole fast edited glitching wireframe look really fits the area in a 90s/Oblivion kind of way, plus its not like this ride needed anything else to assault the senses with... makes poor Blivvy look a bit sorry in a way
I just hope they keep on top of maintaining the screens though, I can't help think they're a maintenance nightmare just waiting to happen.
RE The Disorientator - i'd be happy with or without a Washing Machine element (as much as I hate the term 'Washing Machine'. I don't think this is concrete proof, but its certainly hinting strongly towards it, somehow I don't think a Trommel style optical illusion is really fitting of an £18million ride but I could be wrong. Either way its almost a shame its been leaked like this, not quite as bad as when somebody leaked the Th13teen name and AT had to essentially place an injunction on TTF, but still ruins the surprise somewhat.

Assuming that little animation is an accurate representation of what happens on ride. Then it still inst a washing machine. Its the track itself that rotates, not the track on a round bit of steel (like a washing machine). I imagine as the track spins you see something horrifying underneath. This now means we will have a mini slammer in the smiler. Or it could be the heart-line roll (but the train does not seem to accelerate in the animation, or is this a stylistic choice?)

Wow. This has got me excited. This is such a striking and unique concept for a ride - the scanning memories section is creepy and reminds me of the memory wiping scenes in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
What is most intriguing is the Disorientator - what could this be? :S

The only thing I know for a fact is that the track in the building is fixed.
Unless someone has sneaked in overnight and changed it. >

For crying out loud! We have seen them put the track in and we know what the track will do. There will not be a trick track element on this ride. We might see some sort of trommel like on Duel and we might see some sort of effects, but there is not a trick track element.

You cannot be certain of that, especially considering the majority of the work on the barrel roll out of the station was done whilst the park was closed and so constant updates were impossible.

This is like the 13 3D image projecting within the crypt all over again.

Are we going mad or what?
It's an animation. On a screen with a limited size. To promote the ride.
We all saw the pictures of the track, we know there wasn't anything there before it got covered, and considering the park's been open for over a month, and the ride due to open next month, I'm sure at least one of us will have noticed a big 'washing machine' element be delivered.

I didn't say washing machine did I. I said the track would spin independently, on its own axis!!! Or that it would be the heartline roll. And I did say, judging by the animation this could mean And even if this isnt a personal attack. It feels like it! (Slams the door)

I think, the disorientator (which I imagine will be a barrel roll enclosed in a spinning tunnel, thus you spin but don't realise you're spinning?
However - can we just emphasise how FRIGGING awesome those screens are. I would also point out, why on earth don't they retrofit some of the oblivion queue line with some new videos and awesome screens?

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING IS THAT!!!!!!!
If you remember on the game, the walls look built weirdly, throw in some strobes or something and a barrel roll and the psychology/perception and that may well be it.
It's disorientating, so I'd wager no trick track, but the way the walls/track/possibly moving effects will affect how you feel.
SOMETHING is going on in that building that is NOT just a barrel roll. Saw does that for goodness sakes, they'd be idiots to promote it this way and it be just a basic barrel roll!! Take it in the context of the rest of the ride.
Anyway, from a very cynical poster of this theme?
I LOVE IT!!!!!!
Finally, something that feels a bit darker and intrusive. It has totally bought the Marm to life - yes it's still a bit cartoon like but HAVE YOU SEEN THAT SCREEN??!!
HAHAHAHAH!

The Alton Towers Guide have posted a second video with more screen testing.
Looks like they configured it properly now. Images now in the centre! I just hope they get that one screen sorted now!

1:08 in just about confirms FACE DETECTION!!!
I believed it would have it from the start anyway to warp your photos - I think that just about as good as confirms it!!!
FREAKING HELL TOWERS WHAT YOU ARE BUILDING!!!
One thing talking about it, but most of the things that have speculated about are ALL appearing???
The marm still doesn't make a huge amount of sense though lol! Stylistically speaking.
But there is just no ride like this anywhere in the world.
EDIT:
A thought just occurred to me you know. Will this actually succeed in the idea behind it? Will this machine, almost actually be, the machine it is supposed to be replicating or representative of??
I find myself SMILING without realising it, and being a little freaked out too by those images.
wtf?

No. No it doesn't confirm it.
It confirms that the Marmaliser will show stuff on its video screens.
That's about it.

Here is a slice of humble pie to eat later:
Feel free to ignore the images on the screen of the Marm describing what it does in detail. Not even going to debate this with anyone, it's too obvious now.
Oh, and you can quite happily send that back if I am wrong. But I wont be.
;D

Haha, seeing TheMan so happy makes me smile. Nothing like seeing one of the self proclaimed resident grumblers show sheer unbridled joy at something like he's a 12 year old kid again. Love it.
