Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Great to hear that Merlin is rolling out their poor ride availability across all their parks
It was a surprise to me - first time I've been somewhere with zero coasters running for the first few hours for absolutely no reason! (Perhaps Merlin no longer operate coasters in light rain?)

They do have some weird rules, on one of their Summer Nights events it was nothing short of a monsoon but all the rides were running fine, yet a few days later a brief shower bought the park to its knees. I know they don't like running the suspended coasters such as Nemesis in the rain because punters complain when they get dripped on by dirty greasy water, and Saw has such a tight operating window wind wise that someone farting in the queue line can trigger a shutdown, and Merlin hate Swarm so shut it down for that reason alone, but I think as Roy says, this is the start of the planned rollout of ride availability reductions after its successful launch at Alton last weekend.

Merlin are following sirs of many American and Asian parks of cautiously closing rides down in certain weather conditions. Thorpe's rides each of temperature and wind monitors which dictate when the ride can run. These monitors are very precise, and are set to warmer temperatures and lower wind speeds than they were in the past.

That's why rides are closing in conditions they used to operate in a couple of years ago. The monitors meashre temperature and wind high up (so where the ride is running), which is why there are times the rides close despite weather being fine at ground level.

Merlin won't allow rides to run unless the weather has been at a safe level for a continuous period of time. As Thorpe is by a lake, gusts and changes in temperature can happen quickly, which can cause lengthier delays.

For the record that wasn't meant as a dig at Thorpe Park. I repair Animatronics for a living (nothing spectacular, most of them only have a couple of moving components). Even the most basic cylinder or drive motor can cost several hundred pounds.

Considering this is a low CapEx year the most Thorpe Park would have spent is £1million (marketing included).

For a fully functional Disney Animatronics (realistic motion not just a background character in Pirates or The Haunted Mansion) you'd be approaching the £1 million mark!

I would have thought they'd spend a bit more than that, myself, but maybe not. Out of interest, how long do people reckon queues for this might be when it opens?

Sorry for double posting, but people who've ridden it have said it's pretty good!

Also, have a video of the preshow and queue line courtesy of Scream Seekers:

I have to say, this looks really, really good from what I've seen! Well done, Thorpe!

Any Scare Maze would look the same.

It looks like... a scare maze. Nothing new, extraordinary or special here.

The ride looks incredible, but do you want to know how long I most likely won't be queueing for a credit that I already got in 2014?

On a serious note, the ride looks really, really good, even for me, who has never watched The Walking Dead!

Shocked that people invited to a media event are saying it's good... Shocked I say!

Queue will be an hour plus because Thorpe...

TTSP have now uploaded a POV of the attraction:

It looks absolutely stunning! This makes me really optimistic for future additions to Thorpe Park!

Just a question, for anyone who may have been at the press event, does the ride contain scare actors, or were these just for the promos?
