Thorpe Park: General Discussion

They added an angry bird to the photo kiosk roof and appended "bombs away" to the name. That was about it.

You can do a before and after comparison on street view, they really didn't put a lot of effort in.

I think one or more may have returned?

When I went last weekend, the drop felt more intense than it did the last time I rode it in 2021, although certainly not as intense as Venom at WMSP.
I’d agree detonator definitely felt more intense yesterday than previously.

Also, Ghost Train seems to have had some more updates - not sure if it was a last ride of the day treat, updates, or stalling because something had broken, but we were in the second train scene for AGES, to the point where it was commented “this is going on a bit isn’t it?” Fair play to the actors though keeping up the intensity. Although drooling at people was a bit much!

Work on fright nights is fully underway.

A tent that looks bigger than the big top ever was is being installed. If you go on google maps looks bigger than survival games too.

Also saw these outside.. could these be heading into the maze?

If they bring back a big top in spirit they better not mess it up.

Also, why hasn’t trailers changed at all? I thought the appeal was that they could change things easily

This is a review of Ghost Train, which I rode for the first time today. It was very good!
The queue of Ghost Train isn't great, but it is better than DBGT's queue due to the posters. I queued for about an hour for my first ride and 25 minutes for my second ride. My second ride was the last Ghost Train ride of the day. The pre show is good. I preferred it to the DBGT pre show. This explains the theme of the ride. After that, you climb some stairs, and there are two televisions. Then, you turn left and enter the attraction. The reveal of the train is very good, and I like the colour scheme of the train. As you enter the train, you choose your seats. If you take a bag into the attraction, you have to put it on your lap. Then, the train starts moving and the actors on the train introduce themselves. After that, one of them does a 'ticket check', while the other one shouts, 'You don't need no tickets!' The incorrect grammar annoyed me a bit. The lights in the train go dark every once in a while, and the actors use the darkness to jump out at people. The far left area of the train seems the best position for this. Soon, you are told to exit the train. After that, you enter an area with quite a lot of skulls. The people in the area tell you a bit more about the story. At one point, their voices turn demonic. It felt more humorous than scary, though. Suddenly, a creature swoops past your heads from above. It reminded me of the infamous Ghost Corridor section of the original Haunted House at Alton Towers. Then, an actor who is hooded starts running around. This actor wasn't so good on the first ride, but they were much better on the second ride, where it got into my face a few times, although I had to position myself correctly for this to happen. Then, you enter the train for the second time. The far left is the best area for this as well. There are some demonic voices from the actors. Then, some nuns appear from the left side door. On my first ride, there was only one nun but on my second ride, there were two. They run up and down the train, but mainly focus on the far left area. I was seated on the far left on my second ride, so the nuns focused quite a lot of attention on me. I still wouldn’t say that it was scary, but it is funny to watch the reactions of other people. There are some UV effects. The ‘See it, Say it, Sorted' announcement plays, and then you get off. You then enter the fake shop. It all seems normal. You are told that there has been an incident in the Last Call Café. Suddenly, certain objects shake. An actor appears near some screens. The actor leaves, and the actor from the pre show says that it is soul redemption, not photo redemption. A few more things shake and then the ride ends.
I really enjoyed this ride! It was extremely fun, and far better than DBGT. The best bit is the reactions of other people, but I also enjoyed the creature on a track. The theming is quite good.

Went to the park today for the second time of the year with a friend visiting the country, and tnd the upkeep really is just horrendous. There's not a single area, other than Swarm Island maybe, that isn't riddled with cobwebs, graffiti, worn paint, damp marks, etc. Kids areas covered in bird poo, Black Mirror Labyrinth covered in rubbish throughout the maze and thick grime on every mirror, queue for Colossus had every bin tipped over in the middle of the day... I could write a lot for every ride, but just really, really in need of a lot of investment all over.

And unrelated: I also feel like there's a good ride inside Ghost Train but
I almost feel that they should remove the train worker actors from the train and replace them with a clearer narrative voiceover from the train's announcement system. The actors' performances, at least during my two rides, have just been really hard to follow and without much interaction with the riders. If we were led to the train by the conductor and the first actors we experienced on the trains were the ghosts later in the ride, I feel that would be far more effective and feel like a better dark ride rather than odd performance art that it feels like at times now.
