Toverland: General Discussion

A brief update from Toverland as posted yesterday by 'Parks & Coasters WorldWide' it would appear the parks headline attraction, Troy is getting some 'Toverland Loving Care' courtesy of GCI over this closed season.

Apparently some substantial retracking to some of the more forceful portions of this ride taking place. Obviously this is a completely standard procedure for any wooden coaster, especially one such as Troy this is 9 years old this season.

I am sure others will agree this is just what the ride needs. When a few of us took a trip back in July, the ride was getting incredibly Jolty and had a lot of vibrations going off. By no means a shadow of it's former self, but definitely not living up to it's reputation. Obviously no wooden coaster is ever going to be glass smooth and nor should it be, but Troy is certainly in need of this work! :)

At not point when riding Troy did I think it needed retracking (yet) but I certainly won't complain!

It's a few years since I've been on it, but I wouldn't have said Troy needed anything done to it either! Makes you realise just how much work woodies need... and why it's just as well that Merlin haven't built one.

Don't get me wrong, it is by no means bad and could certainly have lasted longer without it. But I guess getting in a d doing some before it's more of an issue is great too.

It was about 3 and a half years since I last rode it and it certainly wasn't anywhere near as good as it was when I rode it then. Though, I think this perception hasn't been helped by the fact that in that same 3.5 year period Wodan has come on amazingly to become an absolute beast compared to it's 2012 opening!!

Great to see. I was very impressed by Troy in July last year, and on my initial couple of rides I thought I might potentially end up preferring it as a coaster to Wodan (though not as a complete package). However, there was an awful lot of vibration in places, especially hammering through the first corner, and after spending the last half hour of the day repeat riding it I decided that made it more difficult to enjoy than Wodan, which stays wild without knocking you about much in the process.

Having ridden Troy back when it was new, it's fair to say that over the years the ride (particularly towards the rear) has become much more vibration-packed, so this work will hopefully reduce that and get the ride back to tip-top form!

At its best, Troy is a top 10 coaster in Europe.

Some more exciting news for the Theme Park enthusiast world, it has been reported by 'Wonder World Web' that yesterday a deal was signed by the owner of Toverland and the local Mayor to allow for expansion!

This means ladies and gentlemen, we have another 2018 project on our hands as It is reported that the first phase of expansion is to open in the summer of 2018. It is set to include a new themed land and associated rides behind the existing park around the large lake.

Following this it is stated that the park wish to form 24-75 Hectares in the next 10 years. It is worth noting in this instance that the entire park and car park currently only occupies just over 20 Hectares! Along with expansion a new main entrance is also planned for the park, presumably this will go directly into the outside area into a new plaza, rather than into one of the sheds.

All rather exciting stuff it has to be said, could this be the long rumoured mega coaster from a couple of years ago. It's certainly going to be one to watch anyway, Toverland is a lovely little park as it is, but expansion to Europe's best service station is always welcome ;)

Yay that is brilliant news! I love Toverland, I've only been once but it is possibly my favourite 'small' park that I have visited. Hopefully the new land in 2018 will include some form of coaster, ideally family thrill (something from Mack wouldn't go amiss, similar to Alpina Blitz).

:)

Excellent news! Toverland's a delightful park, and I look forward to seeing what an expansion will bring. A Mack along the lines of Alpina Blitz would be perfect for them.

Wow, that's pretty big news for Toverland, hopefully we will get official confirmation in the not too distant future. I'd like to see a launched wing coaster a la Thunderbird but imagine that a lift hill is more likely.

:)

Although I am not a huge fan of the one wing coaster I have done this is still great and very exciting news to hear especially for a park like Toverland, only the second B and M in Holland, I look forward to seeing what they do with it as they seem to have made a great effort with everything they have done so far and seem like a park heading towards big things.

The area around Holland and North West Germany has probably the best collection of theme parks close together in Europe.

I thought they were struggling slightly due to the huge amount they've spent on rapid expansion?

Hopefully whatever it turns out to be works out for them, wing coasters may be toward the tamer end of the B&M range but it still seems a major departure from the park's current lineup.

Good on them for aiming high. Admittedly not the choice I'd have opted for, but I'm sure it'll be a themed delight (not expecting much ride wise).

Speculate to accumulate I guess. Especially as other parks in the local-ish area have all had big investments recently. If they are expecting a big draw to Efteling for Symbolica, maybe they are trying to capatlise and hoping people doing both parks over a weekend. I'm already thinking of a weekend in Eindhoven next year to do both :)

Unsure how accurate this is, however someone over on themepark.nl is claiming that this is the layout of Toverland's 2018 B&M wing coaster:

34276454902_2f3c5e70c7_o.png

And some stats:
  • 42m high
  • Round the 800m long
  • 3 inversions (Dive Drop, Immelman and Zero-G)
  • Trains of 6 coaches long, 24 men by train
  • Colours (for the time being) Light blue track, brown supports
Clearly that is not an official plan and it looks hand drawn, I can only assume that if it is genuine it has been drawn from some real plans. It is worth noting that there is some light blue B&M track at their factory in Ohio at the moment, although I am not sure if their European coaster track is fabricated there or somewhere in Europe.

The layout doesn't look great, but to be honest I am slightly sceptical of how genuine it is.

:)

Apologies for the double post but there is already an update on this - Toverland have announced it!

Toverland opens a new theme park with Wing Coaster in 2018

05-05-2017

Toverland will be one and a half times bigger in 2018. The theme park then expands with a new entrance area and a new theme area. Two major attractions are central to the theme park. A spectacular rollercoaster and an enchanting boat ride will provide a lot of luck to the visitors.

The new area of †<†<the theme will be located at the ponds behind the existing area of the Magic Valley. Eyecatcher of this area becomes a sensational Wing Coaster. With this type of roller coaster, the trolleys hang next to the rails, creating a unique flying experience. During the ride the passengers will cross the head several times. Paul Oomen, Technical Director, is very proud of this addition. "This is the first Wing Coaster in the Benelux." He promises that a ride in the Wing Coaster gives an unforgettable sense of freedom. The supplier is the leading roller coaster builder Bolliger & Mabillard.
In addition, one can enjoy a magical boatride. This water attraction is suitable for the whole family and will be partially covered. The boatride is built by MACK Rides. Also spinning coaster Dwervelwind and log flume Backstroke in Toverland are of this German supplier.

In addition to the theme area, Toverland also opens a new entrance area. This area becomes a residential area with various catering facilities, shops and an outdoor stage. From here, visitors can pursue their way to the remaining theme parks of Toverland.

The total expansion is over 7 hectares; This increases the park surface by one and a half times. This will be the biggest expansion in Toverland's history.

A very impressive sounding expansion indeed - two news rides in a new themed area and a new entrance!

No clues as to whether the layout posted above it real or not, however someone has already mocked up a layout based on it in NoLimits:

A return to Toverland is certainly on the cards!

:)

It looks great and a big ride is just what the park needs. I didn't go this summer as it couldn't quite draw me to the park from NRW, no matter how much I wanted to ride Troy. I think 2018 is looking a likely visit for me.

I wonder if this will have a similar dark theme to both Merlin's efforts or whether Toverland will go for different experience? I hope its the latter.

This is fantastic! Hopefully the theming will be on par with Magic Valley.

(and I'm looking forward to the IMAscore soundtrack ;))
