Thing is, I'm not into Love Island. But if they were playing Love Island highlights somewhere on park, I wouldn't care at all. It doesn't affect me whatsoever. Who cares

Based on the number of pages, likes and comments on both sides of the argument your point seems moot. I have never watched love island is there a lot of chanting and shouting? Would the output from such a show be heard from a distance? Might explain the difference in impact.

But if Alton Towers do start showing love island I wouldn’t be best pleased!

Is the football theme staying on this thread until the full time whistle is blown at the final game?

How about ripping the VR headsets off Galactica, rent them out to the footy fans and stream the football to them. Merlin make more money, non fans are not subject to the audio or visuals and most importantly we get Air back.

And they can have a virtual fight/pitch riot at the end of the game if they wish.

Win win.

I'm going to move this topic along a bit as it's gone stale.

I would ask all the anti football brigade a simple question. Would you object to towers showing England Rugby Union/league matches! Boxing?

The first England match was shown on a new screen in the back of margs a few days ago. So I assume this will continue. If we have any more? I have no idea. Don’t follow football.

There we go, the resort is showing the matches.

Heaven forbid 'Shouting and chanting' should happen. I'm endlessly sorry for my previous ignorance. I hadn't considered that there might be shouting and chanting.

I think if I was enjoying a nice day out at Alton Towers and heard faint chanting and shouting in the distance, I'd leave the park instantly. Once when I was queuing for Nemesis I saw a teenager smile. Needless to say I got security to eject him from the park.

Imagine if Towers announced they would show England in the World Cup Final (I know, the realms of fantasy, Towers offering something for free), hordes of skinheads drunk on life would descend upon Towers chanting rude things like "EN-GER-LUND" and "OH HARRY KANE, HE'S ONE OF OUR OWN!", simultaneously rioting and celebrating as a last minute Ashley Young screamer wins the cup...

Worst thing about the England national team is the band.....

Europa have it on at Colosseo and DLP in Disney Village (by the sports bar)...

If other parks are doing it then fair enough. I work in an airport and they put up big screens for the euro's. They're back on again for the world cup. If you're waiting for your gate there's no getting away from it and the volume is quite loud. Some passengers complained but management decided to keep it going as they decided that a lot more people enjoyed it than didn't.

It's not like Alton would be showing it on screens in the queue lines where you can't get away from it I suppose.

I can't envisage day visitors to Alton Towers equivocating watching some live World Cup football at the park during the course of the day with watching it in the pub? Even the most hardened thug would surely feel sheepish starting up an England chant amongst likely hundreds of children, let alone ripping his shirt off and setting about destroying the park's facilities as appears to be suggested on here.

Having said that, does anyone remember zeock from the old TT days? He was really one for this kind of behaviour, on-park too. Was certainly for the best that he eventually got perma-banned!

Exactly. Fountain Square was packed when Alton Towers showed the England vs Germany game in 2010; there were plenty of people there enjoying themselves and there was none of this aggressive atmosphere around that has been implied by some.

Look at all those damn trouble makers!!

Fountain Square may not be the best place to show it like I orginally suggested, however I do maintain that some sort of World Cup themed event would not have been a bad thing for Alton Towers.

:)

Due to the reduced opening hours, people havent the time to stand and watch a bit of footy. Its a mad rush to try and get on as many rides as you can in the limited time. Plus, with mobile phones and live broadcasts now, most can watch the games on their devices while stood in queues. I'm not bothered football or any other sport isnt shown on big screens in the park - its supposed to be a place of escapism from the outside world.

Who would spend £30 to enter a theme park just to watch the football?

I agree completely with @GaryH - I managed all the roller coasters, Hex and some re-rides but that was staying from open till close, no stopping for lunch never mind to watch football.

If England progress beyond their group and further into the tournament, Alton would be daft not to screen the games, although there's no need to make a massive marketing fuss of it at this stage. But that's nothing to do with the potential for violence! If some old firm are going to want a ruckus, I doubt a theme park in Staffordshire will be the central meeting point. Especially since they discontinued the Single Rider queues!

Personally, to me the football makes watching paint dry look like the height of ecstacy. I have no problem with people enjoying it, but don't like it rammed down my throat all the time as though it is the most important thing in the world (it isn't).

Personally, I can see no purpose in paying to enter an amazing theme park with an alleged 100 million pounds worth of world class ride hardware only to watch some overpaid prima Donna's kick a ball around a field when they could do that at home (or in the pub).

Hmm, Nemmie or football. Not a difficult choice for me personally.

Don't understand it at all.

I'm in the escapism camp.
