Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Talking of Scarefest.. I wonder what they've got in mind for the ride this year. There's a lot of potential, and it's obviously linked to The Sanctuary, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. If anything (hopefully!).

I like to think we will get similar lighting to the ones present a few nights ago, it would look brilliant!

All around the park. ;)

There's also meant to be a new setting on the Marmaliser today. Or at least some images which haven't been seen before!

We can always hope!

Lighting up this beast will be brilliant at dusk, especially with the Marmaliser in full action.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I'm still fairly confident there is more to this ride than just most inversions. I know that is a big claim in its self, but not as big as they hyped. My basis for this is the game. Not sure how much we can be sure of from the game, but pretty much everything else has been accurate so I assume we can be pretty sure. Dont know if people have forgotten, but there are seven unlockable add-ins for the game, and all I can see that is missing is the last barrel roll/corkscrew. I cant think what the other extra things could be, but in my opinion they can only really be in a few areas:

-Indoor section, fairly big so could be more than one
-Something to do with the trains
-Something to do with the v-lift and they're only testing that part at night

I dont think it can be self-duelling as the major selling point as that is kind of shown in the game anyway.

One question about that aspect though, if it does exist. Ive only been to AT once last year (so excited to be going on the 24th June!) and it was very quiet, hence they ran all the coasters (barring Sonic and Oblivion) with one train. If this were to self duel, would they just send round empty trains on quiet days?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The station is a bit disappointingly bland. I don't know what I was expecting, just something a bit... more. It doesn't look as good as Saw's station, which is wonderfully dark and sprawling and claustrophobic.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Ride is epic.

Marmaliser is ok.

Station is poor.

Entrance is poor.

Pretty much sums it up I think.

:)

Surprised the airgate system doesn't seem to have been installed as of yet?
airgate system?

The gates that you stand behind just before you get onto the ride, that swing open when you are allowed to get on.

I thought the airgates were installed - they've been inside the station building for months now. They may not yet be functional, but they're certainly there.

Even as a big critic of this theme, it's clear so many aspects are not finished. Even the Daily Fail called tickler a drive through car wash. Still no idea what they were thinking there.

However we are still nearly two weeks away from official soft opening - which it is, otherwise it would be great fanfare Saturday etc. Now is the time to step back and await the finished detailing.

The games stall looked terrible, and now that looks brilliant (for a games stall). If they leave the entrance like that, it will look stupid - and worse than a games stall, which is - well, absurd.

I refuse to believe they will leave it looking like some old fairground entrance.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I quite like the look of the station, but we're all different. To me it looks minimalistic, clinical and clean much like an operating theatre which I felt the station building in the game was edging towards. I'll be happy as long as the ceiling doesn't comprise of black sheeting...

The entrance has a sort of minimalstic charm to it too, and I kind of see what they're going for as the entrance to the queue mimics the entrance to the station building. But stand-alone, it looks quite poor.

The ride is unbelievable! I can't wait to get on it. :p

The Marmaliser is also quite good and not completely finished yet remember. I'll reserve judgement until it opens.

The station is poor from the exterior if nothing is added, such as paint or projections, but if the interior is like it is in the game, then it'll be quite good!

The entrance does look poor right now, but it's only a small thing and, again, it isn't fully finished yet.

Basically, wait until the ride opens before judging it fully! A lot of things can change with a clean and minor details being added remember!

Do remember, when the plans were changed, the ride was thought to be a bit of let down, and everyone was abusing it.

Also, when the Marmaliser was just starting being made, it was thought to be terrible, and everyone was abusing it.

Considering the Marmaliser, station and entrance are yet to be finished, I'll reserve judgement.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Judging the appearance as it is now compared to how it will be when it's finished is like going to the Bentley factory before they finish your car and complaining there is no wood fitted.

Let them finish the ride before complaining.

On the SE part anyone with half a brain knows something is going to happen in the station other than a barrel roll.
I'm a little disappointed with the announced world first so far as well "worlds first fourteen loop coaster" is poor at best in my opinion, but I suppose that's what happens when you employ cheap marketing bods straight from uni.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

To be fair, the entrance is unlikely to change much besides some lettering being stuck on it.

I just want something that actually fits with the existing area theme, not another Air or Rita. Is that too much to ask?

:)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Not this again..
This is a new era of x sector, its uncovering more of the past, inserting a new 18 million massive ebast of a ride into an area is bound to change it, and I'm really happy Alton have not gone for a backstory of "oh no we are all going to die, because of something thats happened" which is the easy way out of a story- instead they've gone for something unique, and different that you wouldn't expect.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

actually first 14 looping coaster will sell, regardless of whether you think it's poor or not, they aren't marketing it to us.

I doubt anything world first will happen on the inside section, lots of effects maybe.

Still going to have my megaphone at hand because "SELF DUELING" is probably the most obvious answer, considering both halves interact perfectly as if it was a duelling coaster, it's the simple choice.

Don't over think with secret elements ext. The most cool headed enthusiast during SW6 got the element right. Everyone else assumed tilts and 4D projections. Simple is the answer, don't expect anything fancy, your imagination will run away with you.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I think its nice they,ve just stuck to something thats really basic. Stick alot of loops in and give it a good background story
